"Hit hard, but stay groovy. Everyone loves a girl drummer…"
Julie Edwards picked up drumming when it occurred to her that the frenetic instrument, which is usually center stage and esoteric to an audience, “looked like fun.” Her upbeat, positive attitude remains nine years later. Julie’s now touring and playing venues at home and abroad as the drumming half of the blues-infused Los Angeles duo, Deap Vally.
It is this playful approach to music that enlightened her collaboration with CHIME Gives. The piece, Bonham, as Julie says enthusiastically, is a “symbol made from a cymbal!” She cites the iconic image representing Led Zeppelin, three interlocking circles, as inspiration for her piece. The design just so happened to be created by legendary Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham, a drummer Julie says was “so creative, so groovy, so tasteful, so heavy,” continues to inspire her passion for the sticks.
